Joe Mahon visits historic places in Northern Ireland.

Joe Mahon heads to Portaferry to visit the 'Portico of Ards', a functioning Presbyterian church and also an arts and heritage centre. At Millin Bay, he learns about the habits of our ancient ancestors.

Joe Mahon discovers a wealth of hugely significant historical sites in and around the village of Stewartstown. He visits the area at the ancient graveyard of Donaghhenry where local historian Aidan Fee reveals the final resting place of Scottish nobleman who used to be called Lord Ochiltree before he came to Ulster.

Joe Mahon is in the beautiful Deele Valley checking on the health of its rivers, learning about the history of its railway, and discussing the works of a very unusual poet.

Joe Mahon braves the rugged cliffs of the north coast to discover the history ofone of the country's most iconic landmarks, Dunluce Castle. He also traces thejourney of an ancient wooden chest from Scotland all the way to Ballyrashane.

Joe Mahon heads to the village of Gortin in Co Tyrone, where he visits the earliest forest park to be opened to the public, discovers a very special tree and encounters an extremely rare species called the Gortin dipper.

Joe Mahon visits the Seamus Heaney Homeplace and follows the footsteps of song collector Sam Henry along the slopes of Fallalea.

Joe Mahon visits Killymoon Castle on the outskirts of Cookstown, before travelling across to Rosehill House, a bewildering mix of periods and styles just outside Stewartstown.

Joe Mahon explores the village of Garvagh in Co Londonderry, where he visits a rural folk museum and enjoys a few memorable encounters in the beautiful Garvagh Forest.

Joe Mahon visits Greyabbey in Co Down, where he visits a stunning garden that was once an old quarry, and the famous ruin of the abbey that gives the town its name.

Joe Mahon takes to the sea as he heads to Inishtrahull off Donegal's coast to visit a bird sanctuary, and learns about the fascinating history of the island.

Joe Mahon joins an archaeological survey at the site of an important discovery near Moneymore and gets the lowdown on a most unlikely war hero.

Joe Mahon explores Lisnaskea in Co Fermanagh, knitting socks and throwing wellies before taking time out to feed a Kunekune pig and shower an emu.

Joe Mahon delves into the fascinating and often turbulent history of Benburb, which is perched on a clifftop overlooking the River Blackwater, where Tyrone meets Armagh.
