At the National Institutes of Health, brave, critically ill patients participate in clinical trials where brilliant scientists, researchers and doctors attempt to find a cure to some of the most unsolvable problems in medical science.

We follow the first few days of critically ill patients who have enrolled in clinical trials at the National Institutes of Health to help doctors find a cure for their intractable ailments and advance the scope of medical research.

The doctors and scientists at the NIH test ground-breaking therapies on patients who are being treated for rare and highly complicated ailments like cancer, Job's disease and sickle cell disease in order to push the boundaries of medical science.

Through multiple tests, patients undergoing treatment at the NIH, and the doctors treating them, learn if the First in Human clinical trials that the patients bravely enrolled themselves in to cure their intractable ailments, have been successful.
