[edit] Information
Director Karan Bali providing an insight into a largely unknown slice of Tamil film history. An enthusiastic film historian, Bali explains his fascination with the life and work of American Ellis R Dungan. Dungan travelled to India in the 1930s; he intended to stay for six months, but ended up living in Madras for 15 years, directing many key films of the era. His classics include Tamil superstar MGR's first film, Sathi Leelavathi, and the celebrated Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi's most famous films, Sakuntalai and Meera.
