[edit] Information

Since its invention at the start of the 20th century, the tank has served as a symbol of political power as well as military strength. These huge vehicles have long since found their way into global culture - whether as a monument, in films or on billboards. Tanks have made history and have themselves become part of the story. The first tank battle inaugurated a new era of warfare. At the same time, these fighting machines entered the culture and were exploited for propaganda purposes. Chapter 1: On the Battlefields of the World Wars Explores the development of the tank in the early 20th century and its deployment on the battlefields of the two world wars. Chapter 2: Conflict and Revolt Exploring the development of the tank from the end of the Second World War until today. In the Cold War, tanks became brutal tools of authoritarian systems and a symbol of political oppression. In the anti-war movement of the 1960s and 1970s, the tank stood for clinging to old, military and authoritarian structures.
