Explores the 2002 Washington, DC sniper case, featuring contributions from shooter Lee Malvo, recorded from phone interviews to Red Onion State prison in Virginia, where he remains in solitary confinement, as well as survivors, families and investigators. Ch1. The Road to Washington DC Discovers how Malvo fell under the influence of a disaffected army veteran, setting him on the path to becoming a mass murderer at 17. Ch2. The Storm Explores the snipers' arrival in Washington. where they began their reign of terror in a suburb, firing shots from the boot of their car and soon leaving the city on red alert. The programme features a personal account of a woman who was only three years old at the time of the shooting, and whose mother was one of the victims. Ch3. Call Me God Recalls the point at which the snipers began targetting children. As 24-hour news media turns its spotlight on the police, there are still no firm leads. Featuring contributions from figures in authority involved in the pursuit of the snipers, including Ed Clarke, Head of Safety and Security For Montgomery County Schools, and David Reichenbaugh, Intelligence Operations Commander, Maryland State Police. Ch4. He Told Me He Loved Me Shooter Lee Malvo reveals how he discovered how his fellow killer John Allen Muhammad really saw him, a revelation that put a strain on their partnership. This episode also examines the story of the pair's seventh victim, 53-year-old civil engineer Dean Harold Meyers, and reveals how he had previously survived an ambush during the Vietnam war. Ch5. Your Children Are Not Safe The snipers play a high-stakes game, leaving a series of cryptic clues. It is 19 days into the investigation with 12 dead, but the police don't have to wait long for a breakthrough. The ex-wife of John Muhammad recalls her ex-husband being identified as the sniper, while Lee Malvo recounts his shooting of a bus driver. Ch6. Solitary Concludes with the story of how the snipers' reign of terror came to an end, and the strategies used by Lee Malvo's defence team as they struggled to save him from the death penalty once he had been safely removed from John Muhammad's influence.
